Excerpt from The Kelly Clan The facts and incidents herein recorded concerning the family of Thomas Kelly, whose ancestors lived in Ireland but was himself born near Philadelphia about the middle of the eighteenth century, were gathered at different times and places; and, while meager enough as to matter and detail, will yet prove of value to all his posterity who may care to follow the slender thread of narrative, so often broken off, that has been traced with such loving interest by the descendants of the fourth generation. It is hoped this unpretentious little story will be a step toward the discovery of other links that will enable the family to learn more of their history, as well as lead to the preservation of facts regarding future generations. Torrian Ramsay, future laird of the Ramsay clan, learned long ago not to take his family for granted. Without the love and devotion of his sire, he would never have survived the childhood illness that kept him abed for years. Now Torrian is a strapping lad, unrecognizable as the sickly laddie of his past, but one thing has not changed - he will still do aught in his power to make his sire proud. So when the King of the Scots asks him to enter into a betrothal with Davina Buchan, the daughter of a power-hungry laird, he feels he has no choice. Though Torrian is certain the lass´s family has hidden motives, his sire believes in following their king´s orders, and besides, the marriage will help keep peace in the Highlands. Then Torrian meets Heather, a wild-haired lass who´s spent the past years living in nature with her wee daughter, away from any clan. With Heather, he discovers that love has a power as strong as duty. To marry as his heart desires, Torrian must prove that the Buchans are not what they seem, but time is not on his side. He will need to rely on his family and friends to help him convince his sire - and his king - that he should be allowed to make his own match. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Woodson. Kings and Clans of the Midwest is a near-future novel set in the Midwestern United States. A plausible explanation is depicted on how the characters watch the dollar become worthless before their eyes. Without a viable currency, the economy and the country quickly slide into an apocalyptic collapse. Characters from various backgrounds are desperate to survive in a situation that has rapidly diminishing resources and many are ready to resort to the worst kinds of evil to get their ´´fair share´´. Very few in this dystopian apocalyptic setting have a clue about how to protect themselves, nor are many of them preppers. They don´t all talk and act the same way, and everything doesn´t always go right for them; nor do they all survive. Characters are all forced to join one of the wide range of colorful and often violent factions. Some seek to establish a new kind of society and take specific, detailed steps of their own design. Those who oversaw the ruin of the country, led by the US president, are desperate to cling to any power they can. The POTUS illegally invites the United Nations to help Homeland Security disarm its citizens and restore order to the nation. Many of the independently minded souls of the Midwest see things differently. . ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Joseph B. Kearns.
